L' Equip Petit (The Little Team) is a Spanish film which chronicles the season of Mangatania F.C. youth soccer team in the Catalonia region of Spain. The kids couldn't be more than five or six. You can tell by their size and the various numbers of missing front teeth. This film is told mostly from the kids' perspective, but don't let the cute factor fool you. They're teaching a very valuable lesson about sportsmanship and what youth sports is really about. The reason you see so many teeth throughout the film is because the kids are always smiling - but not because they're a winning team. Quite the opposite is true.
During the season depicted in the film, Mangatania did not score a goal for most of the campaign - let alone win a game. That didn't matter, though. The coaches and parents encouraged the kids regardless. In the film, watch the reaction of the adults when the kids almost score a goal. I'm giving away too much. Take about 10 minutes and watch the film below (email subscribers click here) and tell me what you think in the comment section. Also, pay attention to the quote from the young boy near the end. "We don't care if we don't score, because we have fun. We'll score when we grow old." He is certainly wise beyond his years. Until next time...
