Volleyball team gives new meaning to "service"

Destruction caused by tornadoes in Tennessee

Much of the country experienced great devastation due to the historic outbreak of tornadoes last spring. Big cities and small towns alike were touched by the deadly forces of nature. Here in St. Louis, a former police chief had the following quote when describing the damage to his home and subdivision. "When I went upstairs from the basement to survey the damage, I realized there was no upstairs." The former chief's story repeats itself across the country as homes and lives were torn apart.

Recovery from natural disasters always takes much longer than the actual disaster. People need help from friends, family, and total strangers to get back on their feet. Collegiate athletic departments nationwide have stepped up to help in a big way. From a large school like the University of Missouri to the smaller Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tenn. - college athletes and their coaches have answered the call to service. Martin Methodist is an NAIA member institution that follows the core values of integrity, respect, servant leadership, responsibility and sportsmanship.
